How to dress for a heat wave

If you’re reading from NYC, you know temperatures reached 97 degrees this week - and we were not alone. Heatwaves swept the country. Is this the new normal with global warming? If so, we are in for a rude awakening. Which brings into question, how does one continue to dress chic and sophisticated with as minimal coverage as possible? The key is stocking up on lightweight pieces with natural fibers (silk, cotton, linen) and light neutral coloring to create a summer wardrobe to mix and match.

Dresses are always my go-to on a hot summer day - something loose and preferably 100% cotton or linen. These are easy to dress down with a baseball cap and sneakers, or dress up with a belt, woven handbag, and colorful slides.

Heading to the office? Opt for light blouses and flowy shorts that you can easily throw a blazer over when you hit your desk or client meeting. I love this top and shorts from Rebecca Taylor paired with a classic white blazer. The shorts are almost knee length, so work appropriate when paired correctly either with a sling back kitten heel or slip on mules.

Still working from home and want some summer appropriate comfies? I love to pair cotton athletic shorts like these with an oversized cotton button down or tucked in puff sleeved blouse like this and sporty sneakers for a cool yet Zoom appropriate look. For a trendier and more matchy match take, try this top and short set from Ayr (if you haven’t heard of Ayr yet, definitely check them out! They are a female founded and run powerhouse brand putting a modern twist on the classics).

Don’t fret about you undies showing, go for thin & seamless pieces for underneath:
